Barcelona: Samuel Eto’o reacts as Messi breaks down in tears during farewell speech

Former Barcelona striker, Samuel Eto’o, has urged Lionel Messi not to cry about his departure from Camp Nou after he “gave his all” for the Blaugrana.

Eto’o played with Messi for five years at Barcelona before the Cameroon legend left the club for another challenge at Inter Milan in 2009.

Messi’s contract at Barcelona expired at the end of June and Barca made efforts to renew his deal last week, but they were restricted by LaLiga’s financial regulations.

Three days after Barcelona announced that Messi would not be returning to the Catalan club, a tearful Messi held a press conference on Sunday at the club premises as he confirmed his exit after 21 years in Catalonia.

The Argentine captain tried and failed to prevent himself from crying before delivering his speech, clearly affected by this week’s news that he would not be staying in Barcelona.

Reacting to the development, Eto’o captioned the video of Messi’s final farewell on Instagram, “Don’t cry son, you gave it all but life is something we cannot explain. We love you.”

“What a pain to imagine [you] with another t-shirt. I want you, son,” Eto’o wrote in another post.
