Rio Ferdinand Blames John Stones after Man City’s 2-1 Defeat to Leeds United

Rio Ferdinand has blamed John Stones for Manchester City defeat to Leeds United in the Premier league on Saturday.

Leeds stunned the league leaders at the Etihad on Saturday, with Kalvin Phillips and Stuart Dallas putting up outstanding performances in the visitors’ 2-1 win.

Dallas scored netted his second in the game in stoppage time to seal three points for Marcelo Bielsa’s side after Ferran Torres had levelled for City in the 76th minute.

Leeds played with 10 men after Liam Cooper was sent off for a reckless challenge on Gabriel Jesus on the stroke of half-time.

“We asked before the game whether Leeds United can adapt. Will Bielsa adapt his tactics to play against a top-notch team like this?” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“He was forced to go down to 10 men and then he adapted and they were magnificent to a man.

“Ederson saved them before the goal went in at the death. They fully deserved this result today. It was a fantastic performance.”

Ferdinand questioned Stones’ positioning for Dallas’ last-gasp winner and said the England centre-back will be “disappointed”.

“He runs off of Fernandinho initially but you put John Stones as favourite to win that ball there,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“He’s got to turn and put the burners on a bit quicker I think. I think he’ll be disappointed looking back at the end of it when he sees it, where his positioning was when the ball was played.

“Could he have adjusted a little bit quicker? But you have to give the credit as well to this Leeds team.”
