Hargreaves gives verdict on Bellingham’s disallowed goal in Dortmund’s 2-1 loss to Man City

Former England and Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves has given his verdict on Jude Bellingham’s disallowed goal in Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 loss against Manchester City.

Bellingham had beaten City goalkeeper Ederson to a through ball but the referee blew for a foul in favour of the English side.

The referee did not also allow a VAR check which would likely have allowed the goal to stand.

Kevin de Bruyne had put the home side in front with Marco Reus equalizing for the visitors in the second-half.

But the German side were left frustrated as Phil Foden struck in the last minute to clinch a 2-1 victory.

Hargreaves told BT Sport: “The referee had a couple of big mistakes there. This is huge.

“The ref has blown his whistle too early because the goal could have stood. Watch his [Bellingham’s] reaction, as a player you know.

“The referee got it wrong and that’s a big moment in this tie. Borussia Dortmund will be furious.”

A 2-1 win at the Etihad for Pep Guardiola’s side means they have one foot in the semi-finals, although there is still a 90-minute football to be played away in Germany next week.
