Why Mason Mount Captained Chelsea against Sheffield United – Tuchel

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has explained why he made Mason Mount the captain in his side’s FA Cup quarter-final tie against Sheffield United on Sunday.

Mount was named Chelsea’s captain against Sheffield United despite the England international being the fourth-youngest player in the Blues’ squad.

However, Tuchel is now saying that he picked the 22-year-old to wear Chelsea’s captain armband against Sheffield because of his leadership qualities.

“Our captains are not on the pitch, obviously, Azpi, Jorginho, Thiago Silva, N’Golo, so Mason was already a captain in one of the FA Cup rounds, so we have kept the momentum going for him,” Tuchel told BBC One prior to kick-off.

“He deserves it, leadership isn’t a question of age, and he has everything you need to lead the team out here in this game.

“I am happy for him, and I’m sure he will show up.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea defeated Sheffield United 2-0 thanks to Oliver Norwood’s first-half own goal and a late strike from Hakim Ziyech.
