Rio Ferdinand Lists two Players that will Help Liverpool win Champions League this Season

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has said that Liverpool cannot win the Champions League this season unless Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez return to the team.

Both defenders have been kept out of football actions by long term injuries with Liverpool badly affected by their absence.

The Reds qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition on Wednesday as they completed a routine victory over RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men defeated the Germans 2-0 in the first leg in Germany and repeated the scoreline at Anfield, strolling to a 4-0 aggregate victory.

Former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen had suggested that the Reds could win the Champions League this season following their impressive performance during the game

“You can rule out certain teams in the Champions League, but you can’t rule out Liverpool,” Owen told BT Sport.

“Liverpool are a good enough team to win the Champions League, no question.”

But in response, Ferdinand ruled out Liverpool’s chances unless their defence was bolstered by returning players.

“With that defence….if Van Dijk and Gomez ain’t there they don’t win the Champions League, for me, at all.

“Those teams [Bayern, PSG, Man City] will be licking their lips if they come up against a centre-back pairing like that at this level,” he said.
