NPFL: Sunshine Stars, Nassarawa United match ends abruptly as referees allege threat to life


The Match Day 15 of the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, between Sunshine Stars and Nasarawa United have ended abruptly.

The first half of the encounter had ended in a goalless draw before match officials refused to come out for the second half of the encounter over alleged threats to the lives of referees.

During the half-time, it was alleged that an unknown official of the Sunshine Stars had attacked and threatened the referees in the dressing room.

Following the development, the match officials refused to continue with the second half of the game at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, as they argued that their safety was not guaranteed.

Efforts by officials of both teams to ensure the match continued proved abortive.

In the first half of the match, there were no hiccups or violent conducts by players and officials.

Meanwhile, the second half of the match has been postponed till 8 am on Monday, March 15, 2021, behind close doors.
