Turkish Women’s Cup: Super Falcons Secure Slim 1-0 Win Against CSKA Moscow

 

The Super Falcons started their campaign at the Turkish Women’s Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 win against CSKA Moscow Ladies at the Emir Sports Complex.

Chiwendu Ihezuo scored the decisive goal for the African champions in the 18th minute.

Randy Waldrum’s side dominated the opening exchanges with Asisat Oshola coming close to scoring the curtain raiser on six minutes but was muscled away from the ball by Bratko Ekaterina.

The Barcelona Ladies star was booked for a foul play in the 15th minute.

Ihezuo put Nigeria ahead three minutes later tapping home a low cross by Francisa Ordega.

Sevilla of Spain forward Tony Payne, who was making her debut appearance for Falcons in the game came close to scoring twice before the break but was thwarted by CSKA defenders.

The Super Falcons continued their dominance after the break with Oshoala lobbing the ball wide from a good position in the 55th minute.

Daria nearly equalised for CSKA Moscow five minutes later but was intercepted by Halimat Ayinde.

Patricia George replaced Ayinde for her debut 14 minutes from time.

CSKA Moscow piled pressure on the Nigerian defence in the closing stages but were unable to find a way back into the game.

Nigeria’s next game in the competition is against Uzbekistan on Saturday.
