Man Utd vs Southampton: Solskjaer to Add Phil Jones to Premier League Squad

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has confirmed he will add Phil Jones to his Premier League squad.

Jones’ last appearance for United came on January 26, 2020.

The English defender has not figured at all since starting in an FA Cup clash with Tranmere, as he battled with a knee problem.

Jones was already competing with Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof for a spot in central defence.

Solskjaer now feels the 28-year-old who has been at Old Trafford since 2011, could still have a role to play.

“It’s disheartening. It’s the worst thing for a football player.

“When you have injuries that take your passion away and take your chance to play football away.

“Phil has been a top centre-back and was in the World Cup squad two years back.

“He was brilliant when I came in so I wish him back into the squad as quick as I can.

“I have been through bad injuries and it might take your belief away and your enjoyment away.

“He has been working so hard to get back. He’s had a couple of setbacks, but hopefully, we can get some news.

“He will be included on the list and hopefully he’ll get his fitness back sooner rather than later and be available to play,” Solskjaer told reporters ahead of their game against Southampton on Tuesday.

Jones was left off United’s squad list for the first half of the 2020-21 season, as he battled his way back from injury, but Solskjaer’s vow to add him to the ranks means a long-awaited return to action could be made as the Red Devils continue to chase down silverware on multiple fronts.
