Gonzalo Higuain Balloons Penalty Over The Bar On Inter Miami Debut

Gonzalo Higuain produced a horrendous penalty miss on what was a disastrous debut for Inter Miami.

The well-traveled Argentine striker has made the move to the MLS after leaving Juventus, becoming the league's highest-paid player.

But he got off to the worst possible start. Having been beaten 4-1 by New York Red Bulls on Thursday, David Beckham's franchise club lost 3-0 to Philadelphia Union last night and Higuain's penalty summed things up.

Looking to get the team back in the game with just under 15 minutes to play, you might have backed the former Real Madrid and Chelsea man to get off the mark for his new club.

But instead, he ballooned the ball way over the bar and into the bleachers - with his frustrations seeing him get into it with some of the opposition players who were making fun of him.

Despite a disappointing debut display, Miami head coach Diego Alonso said the club were "happy" with Higuain's work.

"I think that he showed he was in good condition," Alonso said, as per BBC.

"Logically, he was going to need more games and with those games, he's going to prove more comfortable, he's going to feel better. He was very eager to play.

"The penalty is a situation that could happen to any player - it could have been him, it could have been another player. We're happy with his work and the work of the team and we need to continue to aim to perform better and minimise mistakes."
