Jamie Carragher Angrily Reacts To Harry Maguire Being Accused Of Bribing Mykonos Police

Jamie Carragher has angrily reacted to Harry Maguire being accused of bribing police officers in Mykonos.

As part of the trial which took place in Syros today, the prosecution claimed the English defender tried to bribe police after his arrest as he is alleged to have told them, "Do you know who I am? I am the captain of Manchester United, I am very rich, I can give you money, I can pay you, please let us go."

More than one police officer made the accusation in court, which sparked a furious response from former Liverpool centre-back Carragher.

The Sky Sports pundit took to Twitter to vent his frustrations over the idea that footballers regularly come out with the phrase "Do you know who I am?" when he believes it couldn't be further from the truth.

Carragher also defended Maguire over the fracas he was involved in - which appeared to stem from him stepping in to defend his sister after she was injected with a substance in her arm by two Albanian men.

Maguire's brother Laurence, who wasn't involved in the situation, claims the whole story is 'fabricated" - while his former teammate Alex Bruce has branded it "rubbish".

Maguire was not present for today's trial as he is back in the UK and not obliged to appear in court as long as he is represented by a lawyer.

The Manchester United skipper, along with his older brother and friend Chris, deny charges of assault and violence towards an officer.

The Maguires are also facing an attempted bribery charge, with Harry and Chris accused of verbal assault.
