I Don't Know Why He Said That" - Barca Star Lionel Messi Reopens His Row With Eric Abidal

Barcelona Superstar Lionel Messi has reopened his disagreement with Eric Abidal and admitted that he responded to him because he 'felt attacked'.

Their Bust-up came after Abidal suggested that members of the squad were responsible for the club sacking for r coach Ernesto Valverde.

This led to questions whether Messi would quit Barcelona as Manchester City and other top clubs monitored his situation.

However, in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Messi assured Barcelona fans that he does not plan to leave the club.

'I don't understand why he had to say that,' Messi said.

'I responded because I felt attacked. I felt that he attacked the players.

'Many things are already said about the dressing room, like that we control it all, that we choose the players and what decides the coaches; and some believe about me especially: that I have lots of power and decide things.'

The Barcelona Legend also denied accusations that he runs the club, something he has also been accused of in the Argentina national team.

'There's a lot of talks that I take decisions, that I run the club, and that's false,' he added.

'I don't know why people that. But it has been proven, I think, that I have my opinion and the club has its own opinion and a lot of the time they are not the same and they don't do what I say.'

The row with Eric Abidal cast much doubt over Messi's future at the club but leaving has never really been an option.

'I have said lots of times that my idea is stay, and as long as the club wants it, there no problem,' Messi added.

'I've had the chance to leave the club many times, there have been different clubs interested, clubs ready to pay the buy-out clause, but it never occurred to me to leave and it doesn't now either.

'I have also said that I would like the club to be in good shape, for the fans to be happy with the team, for there to be a winning project and for us to continue being candidates to win trophies like we always were.

'I want to win the Champions League surely, I want to keep winning league titles.'

Lionel Messi also believes he and his team-mates are quite behind from winning another Champions League trophy as they continue to make 'silly mistakes'.

'We must not overthink happened to us in Rome or Liverpool, where we are leaving the game and it seems that we lose focus and what happens to us happens,' Messi explains.

'We must handle everything because in the Champions League every detail condemns you and we have to try to reach one hundred percent in everything to try to win.'
