Barcelona Sign Martin Braithwaite For £16m From Leganes

Barcelona have announced the signing of forward Martin Braithwaite in a £16million deal from Leganes.

Barcelona announced the transfer on Thursday morning and confirmed that Martin Braithwaite has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the club.

The LaLiga club have also included a shocking £250m buy-out clause into his contract, which has become usual with Spanish clubs following the £198m exit of Neymar in 2017.

Braithwaite will be unveiled later today where he will be presented to the press at 7.15pm local time.

The Catalan giants were granted permission by La Liga to sign an emergency striker after being left with just three available forwards to play through to the end of the season.

Due to this, the Catalan club have paid Leganes Braithwaite's release fee of £16m, in order to have him available for this weekend.

Barcelona are currently without both Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez due to injury for a long time.

Dembele has been ruled for six months with a hamstring tear after undergoing surgery last week in Finland while Suarez is also unlikely to return this season.

However, Danish striker Martin Braithwaite has scored six goals and provided one assist for Leganes across 24 La Liga appearances this season.

Barcelona play next against Eibar at the Nou Camp on Saturday, when the former Middlesbrough player could make his debut.
