Napoli Appoint Gennaro Gattuso As New Manager After Ancelotti SACKED

Napoli have appointed Gennaro Gattuso as the club's next manager after the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti on Tuesday. Gattuso who did leave AC Milan at the end of last season will remain manager until the end of the current Serie A season at least.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis welcomed Gattuso to the club on Social Media this evening confirming his arrival.

In his new contract at Napoli, Gattuso will be offered an extension if the club qualify the the Champions League at the end of the season.

The deal is worth around €1.5m until end of the campaign and Gattuso will also make an additional €3m if he stays as manager for the 2020/21 season.

During his playing career as a footballer, Gattuso did play for Ancelotti at AC Milan and also reached three incredible Champions League finals, winning two.

He won during that time two Serie A medals and has a total of 73 caps for Italy national team plus winning the 2006 World Cup.

Gattuso's career as a Coach started as a player-manager role at Swiss club Sion back in 2013 - he was their shocking fifth manager that season when he took the job close to the end the season.

However, The 41-year-old only lasted until May, winning just 11 points from 10 league matches but was not scared off by his performance as a manager for the first time.
