Wenger Among List Of Nominees To Coach Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have shortlisted four candidates to replace Niko Kovac as they plan on recruiting a manager who is experienced to come on board.

According to The Guardian, Ralf Ragnick and Arsene Wenger are among the four-man shortlist.

Kovac was sacked after losing 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. His sack didn’t come as a surprise as he had been under pressure in recent weeks.

Kovac was appointed coach in the summer of 2018 and he went on to win the domestic double in his first season in charge.

But he has always had doubters behind the scenes and despite the 7-2 rout away to Tottenham in the Champions League, poor league form has seen a decision made to sack him.

Rangnick seems favourite for the job and is interested but is under contract as the head of sport and development at Red Bull. He has extensive experience of the Bundesliga, having managed Stuttgart, Hannover, Schalke and RB Leipzig as well as being the sporting director for RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.

Arsene Wenger is another candidate who is being considered to take over the managerial position at Allianz Arena as Bayern hold him in high esteem and he speaks fluent German.

Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag, is also on the shortlist having reached the Champions League semi-finals with the Dutch club since being appointed in 2017 and knows Bayern well after coaching their second team between 2013 and 2015. It would be difficult getting the 47-year-old now as he is still under contract but could try in January or at the end of the season.

Max Allegri is another experienced coach on Bayern’s radar but they are apprehensive of appointing a non-German speaker after Carlo Ancelotti’s difficulties in 2016-17. Notwithstanding, he still has a good chance to get the job as he would have Giovanni Branchini as a representative to cover the language void.

Bayern are currently fourth in the Bundesliga table, only four points behind the leaders Borussia Mönchengladbach.
