Rangers New Coaches Appointment Gets knotty; Salisu On Technical Assistance

Enugu Rangers on Wednesday confounded their fans, supporters and Nigerian football followers with the flaunting of the arrival of Salisu Yusuf and Mbwas Mangut on the club’s Social media platforms with conflicting messages.

An earlier Tweet Wednesday on the club’s new Twitter handle, @rangersint, the club proclaimed: “Salisu Yusuf and Mbwas Mangut land [in] Enugu for Rangers International F.C job.”

And another Tweet with a photo of Salisu Yusuf, reads: “Our new head Coach, Salisu Yusuf.”

Few hours later on Wednesday, the same Enugu Rangers’ Twitter handle tweeted a quote of coach Yusuf which rubbished earlier proclamation that the Flying Antelopes had hired him as new substantive head coach.

“I am here on a technical assistance from the federation (NFF) as the club, Rangers International F.C is representing the country in continental club football – Salisu Yusuf,” the Tweet reads.

The conflicting information concerning the appointment of new head coach and assistant coach at the Coal City side followed Sunday’s indefinite suspension of erstwhile handler, Benedict Ugwu who was swept out alongside his backroom staff following their 2-0 home defeat to Akwa Starlets in a NPFL matchday-five clash in Enugu.

The defeat was the club’s third straight defeat with the earlier 1-0 home defeat to MFM on matchday-three and followed up with a 2-1 loss at Rivers United.

Yusuf is returning to football action after serving out a one year ban by CAF following his complicity in a match fixing scandal.

Mbwas was Delta Force head coach before he was linked to the Rangers job.

Yusuf and Mangut will lead Rangers out on Sunday when the Flying Antelopes welcome Pyramids of Egypt in their first Group A match of the 2019/2020 CAF confederation Cup.
