Man Utd Star Namanja Matic Ready To Leave In January Transfer Window

Nemanja Matic is ready to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window due to a lack of playing time. The 31-year-old has only started two Premier League games this season and managed just 350 minutes in the first-team.

He is out of contract at the end of the campaign and Matic is concerned about his peripheral role ahead of Serbia's possible participation at the European Championship.

Although United have the option of an additional year on Matic’s deal to tie him to the club until 2021, they could let him leave in January in order to obtain a fee and sign a replacement.

United had originally earmarked a midfield signing in the winter window but their impotence this season has made a new attacking addition the priority.

With Matic pondering a move elsewhere, United could also have the leverage to offset his possible departure with a midfield recruit.

If Matic stays beyond the winter window then United could ignore the one-year option and release him on a free at the end of the season, as they did with Antonio Valencia in the summer.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer placed an emphasis on youth during the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia yet the veteran Matic said he felt United had 'no experience'.

"Quality and experience brings you the title," Matic said in July.

"In this squad we have quality and no experience. We have five or six top players, but they are still young, like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. They have shown their quality on the pitch but they are too young to lead the team of course.

"Mason Greenwood, great potential. United have a project and know what they want with players of the future. But you need to give them time because, at 17, you cannot play the same like you are 26 or 27."

United bought Matic from Chelsea in 2017 for £35million rising to £40m and the two-time Premier League winner was an established first-teamer in his first two seasons, starting 63 league matches out of a possible 76.

However, Solskjaer settled on a midfield axis of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay in pre-season and Matic failed to capitalise on Pogba’s initial absence through an ankle injury and has not lined up in a league match since the 2-0 defeat at West Ham on September 22.

Matic has been out for over a month with an unspecified injury and flew to Dubai at the end of October for warm weather training. He was accompanied by his wife, Aleksandra, and three children.
