Liverpool Star Mohamed Salah Suffers Injury Blow, Ruled Out Of Egypt AFCON Qualifiers

Liverpool Star Mohamed Salah will miss Egypt's upcoming AFCON 2021 Qualifiers against Kenya and Comoros due to injury. Salah aggravated an ankle problem which has bothered him since early October in Sunday's 3-1 Premier League win over Manchester City.

A challenge with Fernandinho left the Egyptian struggling on the turf in the first half.

He was eventually replaced by Joe Gomez late on.

Yet despite playing on, Salah is an injury doubt for Liverpool's trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace a week on Saturday.

The Egyptian FA confirmed on Twitter on Tuesday: "Medical tests confirm Salah is not ready for Kenya and Comoros."

Salah, who has nine goals so far this season after netting in the win over City, will now seemingly return to Merseyside to rehabilitate.

The Pharoahs take on Kenya on Thursday before facing Comoroson Sunday, but will be without their talismanic attacker for both contests.

Premier League leaders Liverpool will hope that Salah can shake off the knock for the trip to south London as they seek to maintain an eight-point advantage over their rivals.

The 27-year-old missed the trip to Manchester United with the same troublesome ankle issue last month.

It was initially caused by a strong late challenge from Hamza Choudhury late into Liverpool's last-gasp win over Leicester on October 5.

The former Chelsea and Roma winger limped off shortly after that tackle with the after effects leaving him sidelined for the match against their arch rivals at Old Trafford.
Despite returning to the team, the 2019 Ballon d'Or nominee had shown signs of struggling from the knock still last weekend in a win at Aston Villa, having been substituted off after just an hour.
