Barcelona Legend David Villa Announces Retirement From Football Aged 37

Barcelona and Spain Legend David Villa has announced his retirement from football aged 37-years-old. Villa has been playing for Japanese club Vissel Kobe since the start of 2019 but will now quit his time with football.

In a recent press conference, Villa confirmed his plans to retire at the end of the season with Vissel Kobe having three matches left in this campaign.

Villa enjoyed a terrific professional career spanning 19 years, in which time he played in Spain, Australia, Japan and America.

The Spaniard scored 376 goals in 752 games across his club career, as well as a hefty return on the international stage.

Villa was a pivotal part of the Spain team which won the 2008 Euros and the 2010 World Cup.

He won the Golden Boot at the 2008 Euros and finished joint on goals with the Golden Shoe winner from the 2010 World Cup.


Villa’s club achievements include winning La Liga twice, the Champions League, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

After spending a season at Atletico Madrid, he left Spain for America, as he became the first player for MLS expansion side New York City FC.

Villa spent four seasons in MLS, scoring 80 goals in 124 games.

And on Tuesday, Villa confirmed he had become a lead investor in a new club in the USL Championship.

He tweeted: “Queens always showed love to me and my family while we were in New York.

“It's a dream to build a pro USL Championship club in the world's Boro."
