Aaron Ramsey revealed he has apologised to Cristiano Ronaldo after he 'stole' the forward's goal in the Champions League game against Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday.
Juventus took the lead after just four minutes of their group game in Russia when Ronaldo took a free kick from wide of the penalty area. Goalkeeper Guilherme spilled the ball and, as it rolled towards goal, Ramsey poked it home.
Ronaldo didn't look too impressed and Ramsey looked a bit sheepish whilst celebrating the goal and after the match the Welshman explained why he 'stole' the goal and confirmed he'd apologised to his teammate, saying, "I thought the keeper was a lot closer to me and had a chance of diving back and maybe clearing it.
"My instinct took over to make sure that it went over the line. I've apologised to Cristiano."
Ronaldo is the competition's lead goal scorer on 129 goals so getting an extra one might not have done him too much damage but it might have been the nature of what would have been his goal that caused the annoyance.
The five time Ballon d'Or may have scored from 46 free-kicks during his career but hasn't managed one for the Old Lady since moving to Italy in August 2018.
There is a chance that the goal wouldn't have gone down as Ronaldo's. The initial shot was on target but the fact the spill went forward before coming back and hitting Guilherme might have seen it go down as his own goal.
Whilst Ronaldo will be gutted to extend his lead at the top of the all time Champions League scoring charts it was a first in the competition for Ramsey since scoring for Arsenal in March 2015, against Monaco.
Moscow weren't behind for long though with Alexei Miranchuk equalising just eight minutes later. The hosts look to be holding on for a famous point until Douglas Costa scored a 93rd minute winning goal.
The win left the Italian champions top of Group D after four games, three points ahead of second place Atletico Madrid, and confirmed their qualification to the knockout stages.
