Matthijs De Ligt Made A Double Mistake To Allow Northern Ireland's Goal

Matthijs de Ligt's difficult start to the season continued on Thursday night as the Netherlands defender made two mistakes in 10 seconds to allow Northern Ireland to score.

At the weekend De Ligt was in the spotlight after his stupid handball allowed Inter to equalise from the penalty spot in the derby d'Italia and once again the youngster is in the headlines for the wrong reason.

This time he made two mistakes in a row to allow Josh Maginess to put Northern Ireland ahead in the Euro 2020 qualifier between the two countries, first failing to clear the ball and then letting the striker jump above him for the header.

The Juventus defender's mistake fortunately didn't cost his side as they went on to turn around the deficit, despite Northern Ireland scoring in the 75th minute.

Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay scored a brace and Luuk de Jong also got on the scoresheet as the Oranjes won 3-1.

A win, or even a draw, would have given Michael O'Neil's side a chance of qualifying for the Euros next year but the three points for Netherlands puts them in pole position, along with Germany, to get to the tournament.

The 20-year-old was a breakout star for Ajax during their incredible Champions League run to the semi-final last season and then moved to Italy in the summer.

He hasn't hit the ground running in his new surroundings, as well as his mistake against Inter he also made two errors against Napoli earlier in the season.

On the three occasions he's made stand out errors the Dutchman has been bailed out, with his side winning on all three occasions.
