Liverpool Beat Arsenal On Penalties To Reach Quarter-Finals Of League Cup

Liverpool have made it through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup on penalties after their last 16 tie against Arsenal ended 5-5 at the end of 90 minutes.

Liverpool have booked their spot in the last-eight of the competition by edging out Arsenal 5-4 on penalties at Anfield.

The visitors went behind when Shkodran Mustafi scored an own-goal in the sixth minute. Arsenal drew level with a goal from Lucas Torreira, then went 3-1 ahead thanks to a quick-fire brace from Gabriel Martinelli. James Milner pulled one back from the spot before the break to make the score 3-2 at half-time.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles restored his side's two-goal advantage thanks to a moment of magic from Mesut Ozil.

But the hosts hit back to draw level with goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi.

Arsenal then went back in front in truly stunning style as Joe Willock scored an absolute screamer from long range.

Liverpool refused to lie down as Origi scored his second goal of the night deep, deep into stoppage to send the game to penalties.

Jurgen Klopp's side join Oxford United, Everton, Manchester City, Leicester City, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Colchester in the next round of the League Cup.
