Globe Soccer Awards: Allegri, Klopp Nominated; Guardiola Misses Out

Former Juve manager, Massimiliano Allegri has been nominated for Coach of the Year award at the Globe Soccer Awards. He was shortlisted alongside, Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool, Erik ten Hag of Ajax.

Surprisingly, the former Bianconeri boss was one of the five shortlisted for the award, but not Premier League winner Pep Guardiola after another stellar season with Manchester City. The Premier League champions claimed a domestic treble but there is no sign of the former Barcelona boss in the final five.

Klopp is favourite to win the prize after winning the Champions League trophy with Liverpool in June after losing out in the final a season earlier. He also led them in a thrilling title chase with Manchester City last season, losing just one league match throughout the season.

Ajax’s Ten Hag made it to the list courtesy of his wonderful performance with his team, despite losing to Tottenham in the semifinals in a twist of events, they knocked out Real Madrid and Juventus.

Also included in the 5man list are Djamel Belmadi, who led Algeria to win the Africa Cup of Nations trophy and Portugal’s Fernando Santos following his Nations League triumph.

Allegri remains a shock addition to the list given his departure from Juventus over the summer. Despite winning five consecutive Serie A titles, his was dismissed due to his inability to lead Juve to clinch the Champions League trophy.

The 11th Globe Soccer Awards, organised by the European Association of Player’s Agents and the European Club Association will hold in Dubai on the 29th of December.

The nominees were selected by a jury of international footballing coaches, directors and chairmen, including Luis Figo, Fabio Capello, Antonio Conte and Eric Abidal.
