Vincent Kompany's testimonial end in a 2-2 draw
Over 51,000 fans turned up at the Etihad to watch Kompany's testimonial end in a 2-2 draw, but the Belgium defender was ruled out with a hamstring injury.
The Belgian defender poked fun at himself in his press conference ahead of kick-off.
"You might have noticed, I'm not playing - I just had to be injured for my own testimonial," he said.
Martin Petrov opened the scoring for City in the opening minute after a comical mix-up between Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.
The All-Stars hit back thanks to goals from Robbie Keane and Robin van Persie.
Benjani scored in the dying stages to make it 2-2 on an entertaining evening at the Etihad.
"I'm the proudest man in the world," said Kompany. "It's been a special day. It's been a perfect evening even though I didn't play. I couldn't have wished for more."
The game was organised to raise funds for Kompany's drive to help the homeless of Manchester for the Tackle4MCR campaign.
