Cristiano Ronaldo Shuts Down Robbie Keane After Being Teased About His European Qualifiers Goals Record

Robbie Keane has paid the ultimate price for teasing Cristiano Ronaldo as the Portuguese superstar surpassed the Irishman's European qualifiers goals record after smashing in FOUR against Lithuania.

Keane, whose 23 European qualifiers goals to his name, uploaded a rather ominous post regarding his record for Republic of Ireland.

He wrote "I think you have enough records @cristiano... Leave this one," accompanied with a picture of his and Ronaldo's goal scoring records.

On Saturday, the ex-Leeds United and Tottenham striker boasted three more goals than Ronaldo, but he's now been leapfrogged by the Juventus star following his stunning showings.

He scored in Portugal's 4-2 victory over Serbia before netting a ridiculous four goals versus Lithuania on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old, who's showing no signs of slowing down, is now the leading scorer in European qualifiers with 25 goals.

Ronaldo remained modest after his superb display.

"I'm having a good time, but the team was doing very well too," he said after the match.

"I am happy and enjoying this moment, not because I scored the goals, but because of the level we have been able to demonstrate in recent years.

"It is up to me to continue helping the national team. The hardest thing was winning in Serbia, and it was important to continue with a triumph here.

"We are closer, we have two games - one at home and one away - and I think if we win one of those matches it's enough."

Portugal head coach Fernando Santos believes Ronaldo's four-goal haul is "clear and irrevocable proof" that he's the best player in world football.

"This is the clear and irrevocable proof that he is the best player in the world," he said after his side's 5-1 victory.

"There is no stadium in the world where Ronaldo is not applauded. He is the best in the world.

"We went to Paris in my first game, and the hotel in France was just across the street. There were a thousand people at our door.

"I think it's strange when he doesn't score. They say it is ending... Nothing is ending. You have to be careful because it never ends."
