Pulisic shines, Zardes responds as USMNT thrashes Trinidad and Tobago

The much-maligned Columbus Crew striker silenced some critics, while the Chelsea man showed off the playmaking qualities his side desperately needs

For the second straight Gold Cup match, the U.S. national team followed up a forgettable first half with a dominating second half, with Saturday's thrashing of Trinidad and Tobago sending a clear message to the Gold Cup field that the defending champions are starting to find their way.
After a largely lackluster first 60 minutes that lacked crisp passing and quality chances, the USMNT transformed into a totally different team in the second half, overwhelming the Soca Warriors, with Christian Pulisic leading the attack and Gyasi Zardes showing he can deliver goals that aren't of the accidental variety.
Much like they did against Guyana, the Americans turned on the style after halftime, and Saturday's transformation was even more dramatic. The second half was everything the first half wasn't for the Americans, with Pulisic, Arriola and Tyler Boyd stretching the Trinidad and Tobago defense, and Zardes finishing off a pair of chances to spark the romp.
