Mourinho praises Klopp and Pochettino for Champions League progress

Jose Mourinho has lauded Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino for guiding their respective clubs to the 2019 Champions League final.

Liverpool earned their place in the showpiece event by beating Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night, overturning a 3-0 first-leg deficit in stunning fashion.

Tottenham, meanwhile, produced an even more dramatic performance to sink Ajax in the last four, progressing on away goals after a Lucas Moura hat-trick secured a 3-2 comeback win in Amsterdam.

The Reds will now be confident of landing their sixth European crown, while Spurs are chasing their first major trophy in over a decade.

Neither Klopp nor Pochettino has yet managed to win any silverware while in charge of the two Premier League giants and Mourinho feels both men deserve reward for their work this season.

"I will be in trouble in the final because I like Mauricio and Jurgen very, very much and I think they both deserve to win a trophy!' the ex-Man United boss told beIN Sport.

Mourinho has a glorious history in the Champions League himself, having previously won the competition with Porto and Inter Milan.

Ahead of this year's final at Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano next month, the 56-year-old coach offered a brief insight into what it takes to conquer Europe.

"You have to read the battle, to read your soldiers and their qualities," Mourinho added.

"Football is to have fun but football is about winning."
