Mario Balotelli pleads with fans to no longer compare Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo

For the past decade now, the debate over who is the greatest footballer of all time continues to divide opinion.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are often regarded as the two leading candidates in the argument and some football fans usually pick a side rather than appreciating both for what they are.

While Messi and Ronaldo are the most prolific goalscorers the game has ever seen, each boast different qualities that set them apart from each other.

However, following the Barcelona forward's incredible display against Liverpool on Wednesday evening, Marseille's Italian forward Mario Balotelli insists that the comparisons between the two players need to stop.

After bagging his 600th club career goal with a sublime free kick against Liverpool, Balotelli heaped huge amounts of praise on the Barcelona talisman.

He wrote on Instagram: 'For the love of football please do not compare him to the No 7 of Juventus anymore!'

Incredibly, Juventus' Portuguese star reached his 600th career goal just days earlier after equalising against Inter Milan last week.

Both Messi and Ronaldo have both awarded five Ballon d'Ors each and have won a huge haul of trophies in their respective careers.

One thing is for certain, it will be a sad day when either of these two superstars decide to call it quits from the beautiful game.
