Fans mock Barcelona after their own tweet shows just how much they rely on Lionel Messi's goals

Barcelona's squad would be within their rights to question the club's social media team after a tweet about the side's reliance on Lionel Messi was met with backlash from supporters.

The La Liga champions put out a list from 36 down to one which showed how many league goals every squad member had registered this season.

Only Lionel Messi, who got 36, and Luis Suarez, who added 21, got into double figures for league goals and the social media activity on the club's official channel - an account that boasts 29.7million followers - was soon called out as 'embarrassing'.

Fans quickly made their feelings known about the post with one writing: 'Mugging off your own squad' as well as including a crying emoji.

While many said the club should be 'ashamed', one fan added: 'You do realize [sic] you trolled half of your own team, right?'

A brace against Eibar last weekend saw Messi reach 50 goals for the season as the Argentine finished top scorer in La Liga with 36 goals - the figure that prompted the controversial tweet.
