Divock Origi and father Mike share unique statistic

Divock Origi was the hero in Liverpool’s stunning thumping of Barcelona last night. What many might not know is that the striker performed a feat similar to his legendary father Mike Okoth.

The date was 1997 and Harambee Stars were playing Burkina Faso. One of the strikers that day was Mike Okoth Origi, Divock’s father.

Mike would go on to score 3 goals against the West Africans. The odd thing about the scores was that the two Origi’s also scored the first and 4th goals in the victories!

Origi was only 2 years old when his father scored his brace. How history repeats itself. Some comments to the unique stat are below:

Steve Karanja: Iko kwa genes yao.
Peter Pta: History repeats itself
Ed: Do you know Mike Okoth started as Shabana goalie?
Idowu Olalekan: Karma

Michael Okoth Origi was born on 16 November 1967, initially played as a goalkeeper before he converted to a striker at Shabana, a position that he would feature in for both club and country.

He spent most of his professional career in Belgium and that is why his son Divock is able to play for Belgium.
