Chelsea's Ianni Fined 6,000 Pounds After Mourinho Touchline Clash

Chelsea coach Marco Ianni has been fined £6,000 by the Football Association (FA) following his touchline clash with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

Ross Barkley's stoppage-time goal in the 2-2 draw with United on October 20 sparked a melee involving Ianni, Mourinho and Stamford Bridge stewards.

Ianni celebrated wildly in front of the seated United boss, prompting Mourinho to react furiously and try to confront him at the entrance to the tunnel.

The former Napoli assistant coach was charged with improper conduct and the FA confirmed on Tuesday that he has accepted the sanction.

"Chelsea coach Marco Ianni has been fined £6,000 after he admitted an FA improper conduct charge," an FA statement said. "It concerned his behaviour in the 96th minute of the game against Manchester United on October 20, 2018."

Mourinho had called for leniency to be shown towards Ianni after accepting an apology from him and Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri.

"I don't think he deserves more than what he got," Mourinho said. "He apologised to me, I accept his apologies. I think he deserves a second chance. I don't think he deserves to be sacked. I don't think he deserves anything more than the fact his club was strong with him.

"I hope everybody does the same as I did, which is not to disturb the career of a young guy. Probably, he is a great guy, a coach with great potential.

"End of story with me, is the minute he apologised to me. Let the boy work. Everybody makes mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes."

Tottenham Forced To Borrow More Money To Get Stadium Complete

Tottenham have been forced to borrow more money to help get the new stadium complete.
The Mirror says Spurs have had to borrow an extra £237million to get their new stadium finished.
Spiralling costs have forced the Premier League club to substantially increase their line of credit with three banks on the heavily-delayed project to a total of £637m.
It is the latest in a series of blows the north Londoners have been hit with on and off the pitch, which started with no players being bought in the summer window and led to manager Mauricio Pochettino revealing his “massive frustration” two days ago at the state of affairs.
Spurs were due to move into the 62,000-seater venue, on their traditional White Hart Lane stomping ground, ahead of their game with Liverpool on September 15.
They have been left to stage home games on a dreadful surface at Wembley, and on one occasion in Milton Keynes, with a new moving-in target of January 13, when Spurs entertain Manchester United.

Don’t Drag Us Into NBBF Crisis, Gombe Bulls Tell FIBA

Champions of the 2018 Kwese Premier League, Gombe Bulls Basketball Club have told the African regional body of FIBA that they should not be dragged into the lingering leadership dispute of the Nigeria Basketball federation, NBBF Chairman of the club, Ibrahim Saad said yesterday in reply to a letter written to the club by Julien Farran,  Competitions Manager, Africa of FIBA that players and teams in the Kwese Premier including Gombe Bulls are only interested in playing basketball and not politics.
The Gombe side had written to the Abidjan office of FIBA Africa, intimating it that few days to the commencement of the Zone 3 qualifiers for the Club Championship which they qualified for, they are yet to get any information from Zone three whch is headed by a key member of the Musa Kida faction of the NBBF.
In response however, FIBA through Mr Farran directed Gombe Bulls to write through the NBBF which it communicates with, despite plea from the club that they have been kept in the dark concerning registration for the qualifiers.
Saad however, replied FIBA through the same Mr Farran that “There is no problem in writing through the NBBF which FIBA is communicating with at the moment provided the matter will not be politicised.” He added that “Our players and teams are not interested in playing politics but playing basketball and the crisis in NBBF should not in any way affect our players and teams’ participation.”
The Gombe Bulls boss reminded FIBA that they qualified from the same Kwese Premier League alongside Kano Pillars last year but were almost denied participation by the same NBBF faction they have been asked to communicate through again having qualified through the same process.
“This year, we have qualified again through the same process and for this reason this is a straight-forward matter and therefore, any attempt to disturb our qualification as threatened in recent press statements by this NBBF will not be acceptable and we will be left with no alternative but to seek legal redress to defend our mandate.”

Onazi blasts Rohr

  • Trabzonspor midfielder Eddy Onazi was on another level in his team’s 1-1 draw against Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, earning rave reviews for his performance at the Antalya Stadyumu. Of the 28 players in action, the Nigeria international touched the ball the most, 111 times in total, placing first ahead of Argentinian teammate José Sosa who had 100 touches.

                                   Gernot Rohr
Out of the 92 passes Onazi attempted, he completed 72 and ended the game with a passing accuracy of 82.6 percent. But the most eye-catching stats is that he was the joint top dribbler, along with Antalyaspor’s Dogukan Sinik with four take-ons.
The 25-year-old, had a game-high five tackles, won two fouls and made one interception. In an obvious dig aimed at Gernot Rohr, Onazi criticized the German for not handing him playing time at this summer’s World Cup.
The relationship between master and pupil is set to further deteriorate as the former Lazio ace has been omitted from the latest Nigeria roster announced on Monday for no good reason. ‘’I’ll show my quality and talents to those who didn’t give me the chance to play in the World Cup,’’ Onazi told the Turkish press.

City Win Pitch Battle As Mahrez Sinks Spurs

Pep Guardiola claimed Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Tottenham was extra special because of the problems posed by Wembley’s damaged pitch.

Playing on the scarred Wembley turf just 24 hours after it was torn up by an NFL fixture, City’s peerless quality and a predatory finish from Riyad Mahrez helped them win the pitch battle. A sixth victory from their last seven league games lifted Guardiola’s unbeaten side back above Liverpool on goal difference.
And the City manager admitted he was relieved to see his players cope with the treacherous conditions. “It was a great victory in special conditions, against one of the most physical teams in Europe,” he said. “It was not football conditions to play.
We reacted well. For our players and the players of Tottenham, hopefully they will sort the problem for the future. “It’s a question for the Premier League and Tottenham. We were invited to come here today for the fixture hopefully they can solve that problem.
” Guardiola hailed City’s Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk last week as the finest display of his reign in Manchester. This was a far more prosaic performance as City’s defenders took centre stage, equalling the club record of six consecutive league clean-sheets.
Guardiola was frustrated that City wasted several chances to kill off Tottenham and warned them they must improve if they want to retain the title and win the Champions League. “We had many chances. We needed to score and we didn’t. We have a lot of things to improve,” he said. “Of course we are very good side, I’m not saying the opposite, but if you are going to play in the later stages of big competitions we need things we don’t have at the moment. “We will talk and work and hopefully we can improve.”
It was a dispiriting evening for fifth placed Tottenham, who now trail City by five points after their first league defeat in five games. Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld blamed the pitch, saying: “I have to be honest, the pitch wasn’t good. “Both teams like to play out from the back and to play football in these circumstances, it was very difficult.” But his manager Mauricio Pochettino was more frustrated by the woeful defending that led to City’s goal.
“The circumstances of the pitch were the same for both sides. It was the kind of cheap goal you cannot concede in this type of game. Football will punish you,” Pochettino said. “I’m proud of the effort, we created a lot of chances. Last season it was difficult to compete against Manchester City, but today the level was closer.”
– Flowing move – Pochettino’s cause wasn’t helped by the presence of the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Philadelphia Eagles at Tottenham’s temporary home a day earlier. There were large areas of worn brown turf down the middle and both flanks, while the NFL logo in the centre circle and yard-line markers the length of the pitch were all still visible. But City were unfazed as they raced into the lead after just six minutes.
Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier misjudged a long kick from City goalkeeper Ederson, his errant header allowing Raheem Sterling to steal possession and cut past him into the penalty area.
Sterling showed tremendous composure as he picked out Mahrez’s run and the Algerian finished the raid with a clinical close-range finish. It was an emotional moment for former Leicester star Mahrez just 48 hours after the death of Foxes owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in a helicopter crash outside the club’s King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Mahrez pointed his fingers to the sky in what appeared to be a tribute to Vichai. City seemed less troubled by the surface and they scythed through the Tottenham defence with a flowing move that ended with Hugo Lloris pushing Mahrez’s drive onto a post.
Sent clean through on goal by Erik Lamela’s pass, Harry Kane had a golden chance to equalise but his poor first touch, which couldn’t be blamed on the turf, allowed Ederson to block with his legs. AFP
